How can museums enhance their collection, research, interpretation, promotion and education? Recently, Shanghai Jewish Refugees Museum held its 2024 Academic Week, in which Zhu Chengshan, professor in Changzhou University and former Director of the Memorial Hall of the Victims in Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders, An Laishun, Chairman of International Council of Museums Asia-Pacific Alliance (ICOM-ASPAC), Zheng Yi, Dean of Department of Cultural Heritage and Museology in Fudan University, and Curator of Fudan University Museum, Chen Junsong, Dean of English Department of School of Languages in East China Normal University, and Cai Lechang, Senior Adviser in Yun-shao Culture Media, were invited to give lectures and presentations and to answer questions based on their research and practical experience.

Professor Zhu Chengshan
Professor Zhu Chengshan gave a lecture entitled “From Less than 100 to More than 170,000 - 23 Years of Work Practice in Collecting, Preserving and Researching Historical Materials”. He vividly recounted the extraordinary achievements of the Memorial Hall since its infancy in collecting historical materials, applying for registration in the UNESCO Memory of the World Program, holding the first international academic symposium, and accredited as National First-Class Museum. he encouraged everyone to work hard to make Shanghai Jewish Refugees Museum a comprehensive platform for history education, academic research and cultural exchanges.

Professor An Laishun
The lecture given by Professor An Laishun was titled “Information and Value: the Key Dimension in Understanding Museum Collections”. He pointed out that it is not the end for heritage to be kept in museum, but the beginning of its new life Cycle. the purpose of a museum is not to fill up with artifacts, but to enlighten people. In the process of museification, it is essential to unearth hidden information of a collection, and optimize its value in displaying and educating. Museum professionals have to use a variety of methods and means to bestow new life and vitality to the collections in the museum.

Professor Zheng Yi
Professor Zheng Yi's lecture was entitled “Integrating Museums into Primary and Secondary Schools Education with System Boost”. Based on her rich field investigation, Professor Zheng analyzed the current situation of combining museums with primary and secondary school education. She suggested the museum focus on long-term cooperation with schools, customize educational contents for various schools, and establish a promotion mechanism for educational talents, aiming to turn museum into a real “big school”.

Professor Chen Junsong
Professor Chen Junsong gave a lecture entitled “the History and Narrative of European Jewish Refugees Taking Refuge in Shanghai During World War II - A Transmedia Perspective”. He introduced the theory of transmedia storytelling and provided a multifaceted interpretation of the history of European Jewish refugees in Shanghai. He pointed out that presenting history with different perspectives and in different forms of expression can reach a wider audience. New meanings and values can derive from history through its interaction among different media.

Cai LeChang
Mr. Cai LeChang gave a speech entitled “Traffic is King? —Operation Mechanism of Positive Energy Promotion in the New Media Era”. He analyzed the characteristics of Journalism in the new media era through vivid examples. He pointed out that it is necessary to master the triggering mechanism of trending topics, the path of emotional resonance and the node effect in information dissemination. Most importantly, only original creative content with high-quality can stand out in the mass of information.
