On April 1, Helmut Rakowitsch, Austrian Consul General in Shanghai, visited the Shanghai Jewish Refugees Museum and donated the Book of Names, a volume documenting the names of Austrian Jewish victims murdered during the Holocaust in World War II.
At the donation ceremony, Consul General Rakowitsch stated that Shanghai provided refuge to over 20,000 European Jewish refugees during the war, demonstrating unparalleled humanitarian spirit—a remarkable act that the people of Shanghai should take pride in and remember. On behalf of the Austrian Consulate General in Shanghai, he expressed deep respect for the museum, which preserves and showcases the history of Jewish refugees finding sanctuary in Shanghai. He emphasized that the museum, which tells the survivors' stories, is the best home for the Book of Names. He also expressed hope for future collaboration between the consulate and the museum in advancing Holocaust education and facilitating visits by descendants of Jewish refugees.

The Book of Names records the names of more than 65,000 Jewish adults and children who were killed by the Nazis and their collaborators during World War II. These names are also inscribed on Austria’s Memorial Wall for Holocaust Victims, located in Ostarrichi Park in central Vienna. Unveiled in 2021, the memorial wall serves as Austria’s official Holocaust remembrance site.
