On May 24, Professor Abra Bush, Dean of the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, visited the Museum.
Professor Bush mentioned that this visit was recommended by her friend Cathy Barbash, a member of the Shanghai Jewish Refugees Museum International Advisory Board. The Jacobs School of Music, as one of the world’s leading music institutions, maintains strong ties with China, frequently collaborating with domestic universities and orchestras to host academic exchanges and musical performances. During her visit, Professor Bush expressed interest in organizing a themed musical concert at the museum, featuring faculty and students performing in Shanghai, or in encouraging them to create music inspired by the stories conveyed by the Museum. She emphasized the potential of using music and art to promote the valuable history preserved by the museum.
Additionally, Professor Bush expressed her willingness to assist the museum in locating descendants of refugees in the United States and collecting oral histories. It is worth noting that Professor Norman Krieger, dean of the Piano Department at the Jacobs School of Music and a renowned American pianist, has a personal connection to this history—his mother sought refuge in Shanghai during World War II. Professor Bush plans to recommend that Professor Krieger visit the museum during his future work in Shanghai.
