ECNU-HONGKOU Jewish Joint Research Institute Officially Established

The Academic Symposium on Sino-Jewish Historical Exchanges, co-hosted by the Department of History of the East China Normal University and the Shanghai Jewish Refugees Museum, was held on November 3rd at the East China Normal University. At the symposium, the ECNU-HONGKOU Jewish Joint Research Institute was officially established.

Upholding "openness, innovation, communication, and integration", the Joint Institute will actively integrate research forces from various disciplines both on and off campus, widely connect with domestic and international peers, and build an interdisciplinary platform for academic research and talent cultivation, contributing to the high-quality development of Hongkou District and the East China Normal University.

At the symposium, Professor Mu Tao, Director of the Joint Institute, elaborated on the future development blueprint from five aspects: academic research, think-tank consulting, talent cultivation, international exchanges, and social services. Pan Guang, senior researcher at the Institute of International Relations of the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, Li Tiangang from the School of Philosophy of Fudan University, Su Zhiliang, Director of the Urban Culture Research Center of Shanghai Normal University, and Chen Jian, Director of the Shanghai Jewish Refugees Museum, delivered keynote speeches. More than 30 scholars from institutions such as the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Peking University, Tsinghua University, Nanjing University, the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, and the East China Normal University participated in the conference, exploring the history of exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations, implementing the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind, and promoting the common values of all humanity.


The ECNU-HONGKOU Jewish Joint Research institute has invited renowned scholars from various universities and research institutions to serve as members of its academic committee. At the same time, six junior scholars were recruited as part-time researchers in the first batch.

After the symposium, the participants visited the exhibition "A Proud Communist, No Regrets-Dr. Frey's Dedication to China" displayed at the East China Normal University. This exhibition was jointly organized by the Shanghai Jewish Refugees Museum and the East China Normal University.
